Tired of losing followers, or just not getting any at all? You could be making one or more of these 5 common social media marketing mistakes.
Read on to find out what you need to fix to get more followers and rise in the rankings!
1. Ignoring Customers On Social Media
This is, without a doubt, the number one social media marketing mistake we see brands making.
Social media is now officially a part of your customer service plan. In fact, 35% of shoppers say they’ve asked a brand a question or needed another form of customer service on social media.
So, if you’re not responding to those Facebook messages and Tweets asking about delayed shipments or when you’ll be restocking, you’re not doing yourself any favors – and your customer will likely not shop with you again.
2. Putting Your Foot In Your (Digital) Mouth
It’s great to wish your followers a happy holiday, or to acknowledge a recent high-impact current event.
But if you make overly-political posts a staple of your social media marketing campaign – or even your overall marketing plan – you could lose tons of business. (Pepsi, anyone?)Â
Hiring social media marketing experts to read that possibly offensive or alienating Tweet before you blast it out to your followers is a really good idea.
Don’t let 140 characters ruin the business you’ve worked for years to build.
3. Spamming Posts
You know that Facebook friend you have? The one who posts like, 15 individual selfies a day, instead of just uploading them into a photo album?
Yeah…don’t be like that person.
You need to really take the time to schedule your posts. Doing so means that you don’t post three Tweets in an hour and then go radio silent for a few days.
Your postings shouldn’t be “random,” and you shouldn’t post too often. Also, you shouldn’t randomly spam your followers or people you think would be interested in your products/services with multiple tweets.
Doing either of these things can get your brand’s accounts unfollowed or muted.
Instead, be consistent, personal in your responses, and polite.
4. Using the Same Content On Multiple Platforms
Don’t get us wrong! It’s fine to share your blog posts on social media, and there are options to share your Tweets and Instagram posts on Facebook, too.
However, you do need to tailor at least some of your content for your specific platforms. On Instagram, think hyper-trendy. Twitter is for the politically-aware, sarcastic customer. Facebook is pretty much for anyone with Internet access.
Instead, be sure you include follow buttons or links for all your social media accounts on emails and pages. That way, your followers can get connect to your brand on the platform/platforms of their choice.
5. Spelling and Grammar Mistakes
Yep, even the President has been guilty of making a few of these!
Always do a quick spellcheck before posting. You want to look professional and polished.
